Counselling

What is Counselling?Counselling

There are various definitions of Counselling. A simplified version would be to define it as a professional relationship that aims to provide help and support to individuals who wish to explore and deal with challenging aspects of their lives. Counselling seeks to enhance psychological wellbeing, and to lead the way to a more fulfilling life experience.

How can it help me?

Counselling is mainly applied to the following areas:
• Personal growth and development
• Exploration and resolution of specific problems
• Decision making
• Crisis management
• Handling emotions
• Greater self-awareness and self-esteem
• Communication and relation skills
… and various other aspects that may rise our day-to-day life experience.

Who is Counselling for?

CounsellingCounselling is for anyone who feels that his or her life could be better, and is willing to do something about it. We consider that every person has the potential and inner resources to build a satisfying and fulfilling life; at the same time growing as an individual and establishing constructive relationships with others.

What are the differences between Counselling and Psychotherapy?

The differences are mainly historical, as there are no significant distinctions between the two concepts.  In the past, psychotherapists used to work in mental health institutions and their training lasted longer. Counselling dealt with more day-to-day problems and people who faced difficulties in their daily lives -whether of major or minor importance. Currently the training of both psychotherapists and counsellors is practically the same and most psychotherapists also refer to themselves as counsellors. The same principals and therapeutic techniques can be applied equally effectively by a psychotherapist or a counsellor.

Courage is not the towering oak that sees storms come and go; it's the fragile blossom that opens in the snow.
