What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a process that aims to treat psychological problems, resolve long standing issues that interfere with our ability to enjoy life, realize our goals, and enhance wellness and wellbeing. It is a process of discovery; a learning process. While communication, interaction and the relationship between the client and the therapist are fundamental aspects of the process, psychotherapy is much more than simply “talking about problems”. It is a professional relationship between the therapist and the client, based on well-defined principles and techniques.
Personal development and psychological empowerment is what psychotherapy aims for. It focuses -among other things- on helping individuals achieve a greater awareness of oneself and others; bring about positive and meaningful life changes in different areas of one’s life; overcome obstacles and resolve problems; learn to deal with and work through challenging feelings such as fear, anger or sadness; increase self-confidence and self-esteem.
